Code of Conduct

The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival encourages people to come together to experience cinema created by artists from across Latin America and the diaspora, and to share stories and perspectives on the diverse aspects that shape our lives. We encourage respectful dialogue and debate to foster greater understanding and cross-cultural communication. VLAFF is committed to providing a friendly, inclusive, and safe environment in which audience members, volunteers, staff, Board members, artists, festival guests, donors, and sponsors may comfortably and enjoyably participate. We are committed to Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) principles and we do not tolerate harassment, discrimination, or abusive or threatening behaviour of any kind. VLAFF’s definition of inappropriate behaviour includes any form of physical or verbal abuse, the use of derogatory or discriminatory language, any form of harassment, racism, sexism, ableism, or any other targeted comments which may cause offense to anyone involved in the festival, either as an organizer or participant, and specifically to anyone who is a member of groups that have been marginalized on any grounds enumerated under the BC Human Rights Code, including sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, racialization, disability, political belief, age, and/or status as a First Nation, Metis, Inuit or Indigenous person. This includes in-person incidents, email correspondence, and social media interactions. VLAFF reserves the right to rescind access to the festival of those who engage in inappropriate conduct. This may include a verbal and/or written warning, prohibiting access to venues and events, or dismissal from a position. If you feel you have been the target of or have witnessed such behaviour, please contact the VLAFF Board member liaison, Carmen Henriquez, at board@vlaff.org. We will work to fairly investigate and address the situation. All violations of the law should be reported to local law enforcement. For emergencies, immediately dial 9-1-1.
